Modi’s BJP Poised to Crush AAP’s Decade-Long Rule in Delhi, Exit Polls Predict Shocking Defeat for Kejriwal

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is projected to win the Delhi Assembly elections in 2025, according to recent exit polls. If the predictions are accurate, it will mark the BJP’s first victory in Delhi in 27 years, ending the long reign of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP).

Exit Poll Results: BJP Leading in Delhi Assembly Elections

Exit polls suggest a decisive win for the BJP in Delhi elections, with the party expected to secure 43 seats out of the 70-seat Delhi Assembly. AAP, led by Arvind Kejriwal, is projected to win just 26 seats, a significant drop from their previous success. The Congress party, under the leadership of Rahul Gandhi, is anticipated to win only one seat, a far cry from their once-dominant position in Delhi politics.

While the exit polls predict a clear victory for the BJP, AAP spokesperson Priyanka Kakkar has contested these predictions, recalling past instances when exit polls underestimated their results. She emphasized that the AAP has consistently defied exit poll projections and expects a similar outcome this time.

Arvind Kejriwal and AAP: A Setback Ahead?

A defeat for AAP would be a significant blow for Arvind Kejriwal, whose anti-corruption activism and promises of better services for the common man (Aam Aadmi) won him a large following. If AAP loses the Delhi elections, it could derail Kejriwal’s ambitions to expand his party’s influence on a national level.

Kejriwal founded AAP in 2012, presenting it as an alternative to traditional political parties. The party’s focus on improving essential services like electricity, water, and healthcare won them widespread support. However, AAP’s second term in office was marred by corruption allegations, especially concerning the controversial liquor excise policy. These scandals led to the arrest of key AAP leaders, impacting their credibility among voters.

BJP’s Revival in Delhi Elections 2025

If the BJP wins in Delhi, it would mark a political revival for the party in the capital after its underwhelming performance in the 2024 general elections. Despite not winning a majority in parliament, the BJP formed a government with coalition partners. After recent victories in Maharashtra and Haryana, a win in Delhi could help propel the BJP’s momentum in upcoming state elections across India.

Aggressive Campaigning and Freebies

During the Delhi elections in 2025, all three major political parties, including BJP, AAP, and Congress, aggressively campaigned with promises of freebies. The AAP promoted its governance model, which focuses on welfare schemes like free electricity and water, while the BJP and Congress attacked the AAP’s record on corruption and governance.

The BJP’s strategy includes highlighting corruption scandals within AAP, while Congress struggles to regain relevance in Delhi politics. The AAP’s governance model is often viewed as a cleaner alternative to the traditional political parties. Still, allegations of corruption and lavish spending on projects like Kejriwal’s new residence have dented their image.

What’s Next for Delhi Elections?

With official election results expected on February 8, 2025, the outcome will have a major impact on Delhi’s political landscape. A BJP win would be a monumental shift, potentially altering the future of Delhi politics and influencing elections in other Indian states.
